Competitions

Science competitions are a great way to challenge yourself in the field of science, while also helping you build resilience. Science Unmasked offers a variety of science competitions each year. All competitions are free to join and are for all ages. Rising scientists are not restricted to just one competition: you can participate in as many as you would like.

Upcoming Competitions

From April 1st to June 20th, 2026, submit your best science article for a chance to win a $20 Indigo gift card and a permanent showcase on this website!

  1. Pick a science topic of your choice and research it

  2. Store your findings in a 1-2 page research article

  3. Note down all your sources in APA format

  4. Submit your work on the Science Unmasked website

All articles will be judged by a panel of judges based on the uniqueness and creativity of the topic, the structure of the article, and how meaningful it is to the writer and the world.

Awards

The competition will have many showcases, special awards, and overall awards.

All articles that win a special award or overall award will be showcased on the website in the Competition Showcase tab. All articles will be posted on the Articles tab.

Special awards focus on one aspect of an article that makes it special.

Overall awards reflect all the criteria the judges are grading. This award demonstrates excellence in all aspects of the competition.

Special award categories:

Most Unique is awarded to the article the judges all collectively agree has the most unique topic.

Most Professional is awarded to the article the judges all collectively agree has the most professional format, organization, and fluency.

Most Meaningful is awarded to the article the judges all collectively agree has the most meaningful impact on the author and the world.

Overall award categories:

Overall per grade (*each grade will be given one or three overall awards, depending on the number of submissions)

Overall adult (*one or three overall awards, depending on the number of submissions)

Overall in the whole competition (*one or three overall awards will be given, depending on the number of submissions)

*** Note only overall winners in the whole competition get a $20 Indigo gift card ***

*If there are 1-10 submissions in each grade/adult category, only one overall award will be given. If there are 10+ submissions in each grade/adult category, three overall awards will be given
